We all experience Fear. It’s an evolutionary mechanism intended to heighten our senses in the presence of risk. Whether you’re driving in a heavy snow storm, hucking a huge cliff, stepping onto the mats for the first time, or quitting a cushy job to start your own business, a healthy dose of fear will improve your senses to help you perform better…That is, if you choose to move forward in spite of your fear.
Moving forward in spite of fear is among the primary character traits that separate champions and people who achieve greatness, from everyone else.
Champions treat fear as an indication that they should proceed in order to grow as a person.
If your child is afraid to try something new, it’s important we motivate them to move forward regardless. Pick someone who they look up to like a superhero or a coach and let them know that everyone experiences fear, even their superhero. But what separates their superhero from everyone else is that their superhero moves forward even though they’re afraid, whereas ordinary people cower away. Then say, ” You seem a lot more like mr superhero to me than an ordinary person. Wanna get in there?” Nine times out of ten they will say yes.
Once your child has done what he was once afraid to do, he will be more likely to move forward when he is faced with fear in the future, and more likely to pursue his dreams even though they involve a bit of risk.
